This plant is related to common lettuce; Lactuca sativa, but as it’s common name suggest is a wild species. Wild lettuce is cultivated in Austria, France, Germany and Scotland and can be collected from the wild across the southern United States where it has become naturalized, and from Northern and Eastern Europe.

Alternative for convention pain medications

Like opium, said to have less side effects

Uses- anti tumor prop, anti bacterial, restlessness, poor circulation, pain relief, whooping cough, anxiety, breathing issues, poor sleep, sedation, joint pain, menstrual cramps.

Opium Lettuce, another common names for Wild Lettuce, is named for the milky latex substance that exudes when the plant is broken. This was prepared as a substitute for opium in the 1900’s by physicians. Although the prepared latex resin from the plant is purported to have some of the same properties as opium, the effects are much more mild and it is not chemically related to any of the opiate drugs.

Akuamma (Picralima Nitida) is a plant native to different parts of Africa, particularly in Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast. The seeds are harvested then finely milled into powder with the help of forest villages in Ghana.

Native to Tropical Africa.

Relative to the Dogbane Tree Family.

Dried Seeds are ground and powdered.

The plant produces a green fruit which eventually turns yellow and contains several seeds. Akuamma is usually taken in capsules because it tastes very bitter, Some use it in team and some mix it in their food. It is fast acting, and you can feel effects as little as 15-30 minutes. 1 to 2 capsules (2.3 tsp) is generally used to treat mild to moderate pain, while 2 to 4 grams, even six is used for severe pain. Effects last for an average of 4-5 hours. Dosage depends on sensitivity and tolerance. More than 2 grams may experience a dull headache. Higher doses may cause sever side affects. Studies show it has a potential analgesic activity. Physically active people use it for sore muscles.

Akuammine– Indole alkaloid. The most abundant alkaloid found in Akuamma, comprising .56% of the powder. Akuammine acts on Delta and Kappa opioid receptors. It is an antagonist at mu receptor. It is a sympathetic system agonist It inhibits intestinal motility and shows a fall in blood pressure. However, at higher doses, it shows hypertension.

Akuammidine– Primary Alkaloid. Structurally it is related to Kratom, and shows the greatest affinity for kappa receptors, making it kappa against at opioid binding sites. It has threefold action as a skeletal muscle relaxant, hypotensive action and local analgestic action. It also has sympatholytic effects.

Akuammicine– Binds strongly to the kappa opioid receptors.

Pseudokuammigine– Shows analgesic and anti-inflammatory actions, IT acts as an indirect competitive parasympathomimetic. At small doses, it excites the central nervous system, respiratory system, nervous system, and enhances muscle contractility. At high doses, it causes depression of all the systems.

Pericine– Binds to the mu opioids binding receptors. It shows convulsant effects.

Uses– Pain, fever, hypertension, jaundice, gastrointestinal disorders, lupus, erythematosus, fibromyalgia, arthritis, migraines, insomnia, nightmares, anxiety, stress, sense of well being, panic attacks, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhea, muscle relaxant, any-pyretic, anti-ulcer, anti-plasmodial actions.

Akuamma has been used for ages and was commonly used as an aphrodisiac. It has been used as a means to treat a variety of conditions. Our Akuamma is top notch!
